John Witherspoon

John Witherspoon is a stand-up comic and actor born on January 27Th, 1942. he's most known for his roles in Hollywood Shuffle, Boomerang, Murder was the case, Friday (The series), Vampire in Brooklyn and throughout the 90's he played John Wayans (Pops) on 'The Wayans Bros. Most recently he has taken the role of Robert 'Granddad' Freeman on the Adult Swim animated series 'The Boondocks' based on the Aaron McGruder comic strip from the "Daily News" newspaper.

Born in Detroit, Michigan he has been known as Johnny Witherspoon and Detroit John but is known simply known as his given name John Witherspoon. He started his career out as a Fashion Model for various catalogs. He combined a career as a stand-up comic along with appearance on television and films. Most of his roles are humorous characters as seen in Eddie Murphy's movie Boomerang, Kid and Play's House Party and Ice Cube's Friday series.

His recent roles include Robert "Granddad" Freeman in the animated television show 'The Boondocks'. Witherspoon's most recent television appearance was as a blue-suited pimp on Carlos Mencia's May 6Th episode of Mind of Mencia.

He even had an appearance in Jay-Z's video for "I Just Wanna Luv U (Give It 2 Me)" and in the video for "Sick of Being Lonely" by Field Mob
He can be seen in Hitman Sammy Sam's video "Step Daddy" as Stepdaddy #1.

He also starred in the film 'Little Man' along with the Wayans brothers (Shawn and Marlon) and made a small appearance in 2000 film Little Nicky with Adam Sandler. Witherspoon's longtime friend David Letterman is the Godfather to his son, John David. His brother, William Witherspoon, wrote the Motown hit "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted".

Witherspoon, along with the likes of Paul Mooney, Robin Williams, Sandra Bernhard, and Tim Reid appeared on the groundbreaking and controversial NBC sketch comedy series,which was the brainchild of Richard Pryor (The Richard Pryor Show).
Witherspoon played the role of the blind man in the 2004 movie, Soul Plane.
Witherspoon's first hour-long stand-up special, "You Got To Coordinate," premiered on the Showtime Network on March 28, 2008. It is available on DVD through Image Entertainment.
Witherspoon is currently a spokesman for Eastern Motors, a Washington, DC-based used car dealership.

This Man right here is the definition of Funny, I remember when "The Wayans Bros." was still airing I wouldn't miss an episode, and whenever Pops was in the shot I would find myself waiting to see what he says. If you never learn anything about me, you should learn that I LOVE to laugh, and I mean "Hold my stomach, and fear immediate death from lack of breathing from laughin" Laughin! John Witherspoon is Mos Def one of the people who does this for me lol. Remember in 'Next Friday' when he slapped the mess out of his mom? OH MAN! LMFAO. Shout outs to John Witherspoon man, and always remember if you aint got no style "You just got to COOORDINATE!" lol
