Alicia Keys

Alicia! Alicia! Alicia! Lol

Bet ya ain't know my babies birth name is Alicia Augello Cook. Alicia, best known as Alicia Keys, is a R&B singer, song writer, and pianist and actress. She was born in Manhattan, in New York and attended Professional Performing Arts School where she graduated at the age of sixteen. Before she dropped out to pursue her career in music she attended Columbia University. She had gained record deals with Columbia and Arista Records but her first Album "Songs in A Minor" was released with J Records. A commercial success "Songs in A Minor" sold over 11 million copies worldwide. In 2002 the album earned her five Grammy awards. Amongst them was Best New Artist and Song of the Year for her lead single "Fallin'". A year later Keys dropped 'The Diary of Alicia Keys' it was another great success selling eight million copies and earned Keys four Grammy Awards in 2005 after the success of the 'Unplugged' release. Her third album 'As I Am' released in 2007 sold nearly four million copies in the U.S.Born on January 25th, 1981 Keys is the only daughter born to Teresa "Terri" Augello. Alicia's mom was a paralegal and part-time actress, and her father Craig Cook was a flight attendant. Her Mother is of Irish-Italian descent and her father is Jamaican (Explains why my baby is a BOMBSHELL AAOOWW!) lol. When she was two years old her parents separated leaving her to be raised by her mother during all her years in the Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan. At the age of seven she began to play th piano learning classical music by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin. Majoring in choir at the age of twelve she enrolled in the Professional Performing Arts School of Manhattan. At the age of 14 she began writting her own songs. The fact that she was of biracial heritage is something that she has mentioned to be comfortable with. Keys siad: "I grew up in New York and, thank Go, I never had to go through that in regards to. 'You're not black enough, you're not white enough,' the whole kind of white/black-mixture thing. I never had to go through that. I went through prjudices and all surely. But I never had to battle with those two parts of me" She feels that if anything being biracial has made her able to "relate to different cultures."

Valedictorian at the age of sixteen she graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School. As it was mentioned earlier she was accepted into Columbia University but only attended for four weeks to pursue a career in music. Jermaine Dupri's label So So Def signed a demo deal with Alicia Keys. She co-wrote and recorded a song entitled "Dah Dee Dah (Sexy Things.)" (Now that I think about it, this time period explains the picture of Alicia and Usher as young children in the "My Boo" video, I dare you ever tell me I don't pay attention lol) The song appeared on the soundtrack to the 1997 blockbuster, Men in Black. Although it was her first professional recording, it was never released as a single and her record deal with Columbia Records came to an end after a dispute with the label. She later called Clive Davis and he sensed a "Special, Unique" artist based on her performance. He later signed her to Arista Records (which has since disbanded.) Initially Alicia was going to run with Wilde as her stage name. Her Manager suggested the name Keys after a dream he had. Alicia felt that Keys both represented her as a performer and a person. J Records, Clive Davis' newly formed label is where Alicia recorded the songs "Rock wit U" and "Rear View Mirror" and these songs were featured on the 'Shaft' soundtrac in 2000 and on the 'Dr. Dolittle 2' soundtrack in 2001. 2001 was also the year when Alicia released her first Album "Songs in A Minor."
